The Box of Chaos is a magical box that drops into the arena and trades champions a magic item of unknown rarity in exchange for a sacrifice.

How it works

  • It slams down from the sky in a burst of chaotic lightning. The lid flips open with a column of magical fire that gives off no heat, and a shadowy figure with long, black, tendrilly fingers leans out.
  • Give it something and it gives you something back. Sacrifices have included hair, an opponent’s arm, a bottle of vodka, a championship belt, a chinchilla, a grandmother (who was a bottle of Bailey’s), 396 channel points and Blinky the homunculus.
  • It’s kept at the Eastern Outpost between Deathmatches.

Gerald

  • The box was made by Vythorn (The Arbiter) after Skypiercer. He ripped out Agdrel’s soul, rearranged AGDREL into GERALD, and sealed it inside. “You were the box of chaos” (S4E1); The Shadow King calls it “my former home.”
  • Its influence corrupted the Arbiter and led to his betrayal of the Grandmaster.
  • It went dormant after Decima consumed it (S4E10). Since then the shadow inside is the Arbiter’s own shadow.
  • Gerald’s fingers taste like black licorice. He finished a pair of chinchilla boots (S7E1), lounges in a hammock inside the box, and keeps an expired can of Spam.
  • Squiggles is the first person ever to rob the box (S7E9).
